Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program Public Notice 2016 Waiting List Opening

 back to News Center

The Lakeland Housing Authority (LHA) will officially re-open the HCV (Section 8) waiting list online from Sunday, October 23, 2016 at 8:00 a.m. to Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 4:00 p.m.
We will only accept applications for working families and/or elderly/disabled families as defined below:

  • A working family is defined as a family whose head, spouse/co-head or sole member is employed. This also includes families who are engaged in self-sufficiency activities such as secondary, vocational, or employment training such as on the job training. Remedial education is not considered as vocational training.
  • Threshold limits to meet this definition are employment of three (3) months consecutively. For families in training, the qualifying adult(s) must be enrolled in a full-time training program for three (3) months as defined by the school or training agency.
  • Preference will be extended to families where the head, co-head or spouse are elderly and/or disabled.
You may apply by accessing the following link:

You may apply anytime day or night from a private computer or you may also visit any public library in your area.

Applications will not be accepted at the Housing Authority offices. Paper applications will not be available and applicants will not be able to apply in person.

As a form of reasonable accommodation the Lakeland Housing Authority will provide assistance to the elderly and disabled who do not have access to computers by opening our computer lab Monday, October 24, and Tuesday, October 25, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The computer lab is located at the Emma Turner Building, 1500 North New York Ave., Lakeland, FL 33810.

The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program is a program designed to assist very low income families, the elderly and the disabled and help them afford decent safe and sanitary housing in the privately-owned rental market. There is an income qualification that must be met in order to be considered for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program, in which one’s income may be no greater than 50% of the Area Median Income. Those who qualify for the program will pay approximately 30% of their adjusted monthly income for their share of a monthly rent and utilities and LHA, which administers the federal program, provides funds for the remainder. If the family does not meet the criteria or definition of a working and/or elderly/disabled family, the application will be denied. If the application is denied, individuals may apply at the next open enrollment. Placement on the waiting list does not indicate that the family is, in fact, eligible for assistance. A final determination of eligibility will be made when the family is selected from the waiting list.

The Lakeland Housing Authority is an equal housing provider and will do business in accordance with the Fair Housing Laws and Americans with Disabilities Act Laws.
