Office Skills Training Program
The Office Skills Training (OST) Program of the Housing Authority of the City of Lakeland is a 20-month training program that includes a combination of on-the-job training in the daily operations of The Housing Authority and formalized training courses. The program is designed to instill, in the participant, the proper workplace skills demanded of an employee in today’s job market, and to give them an opportunity to gain actual workplace experience for their résumé.
The ultimate goal of this program is to impart basic office skills and viable experience working in a business office environment, thus, opening a door for entry level employment with a business, organization, or agency. Trainees are required to train a minimum of 28 hours per week, which will include but is not limited to: 24 hours of LHA Assignment plus 4 hours of classroom, group activities, and/or community service training. A portion of the OST Program is devoted to employability skills training, to include, but not be limited to: proper workplace conduct, business attire and appearance, communicating with your supervisor and co-workers, attendance, accountability, and work ethics.
